To our Mid-Atlantic Association members, from the Association President:

I trust that you have had a safe and happy new year as we transition from the busy-ness of the holidays to the cold reality of winter. As I expressed in an earlier letter, the Board of Directors continues in its quest to rebuild the Youth Committee, and for all intents and purposes, we are the Youth Committee until this goal is fully realized. Thus, while you were enjoying the holidays, we continued to work diligently behind the scenes to ensure our youth, their coaches and teams, and let’s not forget the parents, will be able to experience the joy of a great Association track and field championship meet where the kids will run, throw and/or jump their way to the Junior Olympics in Eugene, Oregon later this summer.

With much fanfare, we announce that the 2023 USATF Mid-Atlantic Association Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, 2023, at Widener University, Quick Stadium, Chester, PA  19013.

This announcement is conditioned upon signing contracts, so the ink is not yet dry, but we have a strong and enduring relationship with Widener University, which is centrally located, has first-class athletic facilities, and offers an affordable rental package.

We have also reached out to former Youth Committee members to aid us in managing the Meet. Nelson Berrios, the previous Youth Committee Chair and longtime Mid-Atlantic Meet Director, has agreed to step out of retirement to act as Meet Director, aided by several former members of the committee. We are very grateful for their service and commitment to our Youth and this Association.

This Championship meet will be the prelude to the 2023 Region 2 Junior Olympics Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Thursday to Sunday, July 6 through 9, 2023 (4-day meet), hosted by the Niagara Association. Location: Jamestown, NY. The top 5 youth in each category advance to regionals. The top kids will qualify to represent Mid-Atlantic at the 2023 USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships, July 24-30, 2023. We are looking forward to an exciting summer! Let’s make this count! Watch the progress and other information on our site, https://mausatf.org/ to keep up with upcoming news and events or to renew your membership. Every member counts, and your dues and tax-deductible donations help shape the future of our youth – to Olympians!

Many thanks to Board members Earl Edwards and Robin Jefferis for doing the heavy lifting!  Please feel free to reach out to Youth@midatlanic.usatf.org or to President@midatlantic.usatf.org with questions!
